How It All Started
Hillsboro First Baptist Church was formed on March 2, 1884, originally as Hillsboro Baptist Church. In those early years, the congregation gathered once a month in a local church building.
By God’s grace, what began as a small gathering of believers continued to grow and serve as a faithful witness to Jesus in the Hillsboro community.
Growing in Hillsboro
In 1887, construction began on the church’s first building at the corner of S Third Street and E Walnut Street. In 1922, the congregation moved to our present location, where the building now known as the Fellowship Hall was constructed. Our current auditorium was completed in 1969.
Over the decades, Hillsboro First Baptist experienced seasons of growth and change, especially during the 1970s through the 1990s. Through every transition, triumph, and trial, generations of believers have continued gathering here to worship Jesus and bear witness to the gospel in the heart of Hillsboro.

Where We Are Today
In the summer of 2023, Hillsboro First Baptist called Chris Short to serve as lead pastor.
Today, our elders and church family remain committed to following Jesus with joy and helping others do the same. Our history has included both joys and challenges, but through it all, we have seen the faithfulness of Christ in preserving and building His church.
Looking Ahead
Our hope is to increasingly resemble the church we see in Acts 2 — a community devoted to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer.
By God’s grace, we remain committed to the same gospel proclaimed by Jesus Christ and believed by Christians throughout the centuries. Our prayer is that God would give us many more years to glorify Him by proclaiming Jesus, receiving grace, being disciples, and making disciples in Hillsboro.
